The restaurant closed in the 1950's and became a candy factory. After being put up for sale in 2001, the Childs Building became a candidate for Landmark status, which was granted in 2002. In March, 2008, it played host to a Lola Starr's Dreamland Roller Rink, which ceased operations in 2010 after the building's owners, Taconic Investments, chose not to renew the lease. The building has been purchased by the city and is currently undergoing renovation as part of a new amphitheater project.
